Ibuprofen products have a bad side effect that doctors don't often warn about. Ibuprofen causes ulcerations in different areas - mouth, stomach ... I personally get mouth ulcers so I had to stop taking Ibuprofen products. My mother was taking Ibuprofen and started having stomach problems; not realizing the problems were related to the Ibuprofen she continued taking it for two days. She started having vomiting and loose uncontrollable bowels and was losing blood from both symptons. My dad called me in the middle of the night to take her to the hospital and there was blood everywhere (like a horror movie). I immediately called an ambulance. My mom was rushed to the emergency room and went straight into intensive care. The doctors said her entire stomach was ulcerated from the Ibuprofen and she had lost a dangerous amount of blood. She was in ICU for three days and had to take (I think) five units of blood. The doctor said she was not allergic to the Ibuprofen, that it just has that effect on some people. Even though she had taken it before without problems, the doctor said this can happen at anytime to anybody. I always take the opportunity to warn people when I can because we almost lost her. I have heard of two additional cases identical to hers since this happened so it is not a rarity. If you start having any stomach problems or notice ulcerations in your mouth, get off Ibuprofen immediately and contact your doctor.
