Hi FlipFlop, I don't think anyone on this bb can answer your
question whether your dental work is related to your BEB/Apraxia.I am really curious if TMJ dysfunction plays any role in BEB so I went to the www.TMJ.org site. Interesting tidbits of information showed up: Keeping your mouth open for long periods of time can give TMJ problems(root canals, rubber dams, etc.) One FAQS question was about TMJ/eye symptoms. The answer was that one TMJ patient experienced occasional, temporary, inability to focus and 'snow blindness'. To me, 'snow blindness' translates to light sensitivity! That one struck close to home! The confusing part is that, as far as I can tell, most diagnosed TMJ sufferers experience jaw-joint pain or maybe other pains in the teeth, neck, face areas. Most BEB people don't have that. On the other hand, who can say that pain is the only manifestation of TMJ? TMJ is linked to improper jaw movements caused by worn teeth, improper jaw alignment, bruxism, teeth clenching (stress related)-- and who among us did NOT have stressful lives before the BEB? I often wonder what a comprehensive survey of all BEB/Meige sufferers would yield in the categories of age of onset, gender, past histories of encephalitis(all types) and head trauma. And now with TMJ POSSIBLY in the picture; data on over-bite/under-bite, number of amalgam locations in the mouth, percentage of tooth height loss due to bruxism/ clenching, etc. Perhaps analysis of such survey data would lead somewhere, who knows? Don't give up your smile yet. I'm sure it is worth keeping. Men |
