Peter,There is no code for a limited myectomy. I contacted my Congressman to get help in getting a code for it only to find out that we can't do it. A practising doctor must submit a request to the American Medical Association to request it. It is a long drawn out process. First, you have to come up with a definition of what a limited myectomy is and no one was interested in doing that because there are many different definitions (depending on who you speak to). I know Dr. Anderson has fought for a code before to no avail.
I know of a few people who fairly recently have had limited myectomies and only have had to pay their deductible and co-pay. Of course, it depends on what work you need done. I know Dr. Soparkar in Houston is very good. He will fight the insurance companies to get everything he can get for you. He and Dr. Patrinely did my myectomy in Dec. 2000. I had good results at first but in the end, I think I got about 30% improvement. One of their patients (a lady in my support group) had such good results that she no longer requires injections. (See Patients' Stories video on BEBRF web site.) Soparkar and Patrinely are excellent surgeons as is Dr. Anderson.
