I was just reading more about Dr. Farias on his website, and he definitely talks about inducing plastic change in the brain. My impression (and I may not be getting it all straight, who knows) is that some of the training focuses on physical rehabilitation, some focuses on psychological rehabilitation (reducing the kinds of stress that contribute to the problem), and some focuses on overall body awareness retraining, that teaches one to listen to the body (along the lines of something like Alexander Technique, a movement therapy designed by an actor who kept losing his voice, until he learned to hold his body in a less tense way and to vocalize with less effort).
