Hi,
I had an EEG which I expected to be completely ok (my movement disorder doc thought my 'spacing out' was due to bleph-- he said I didn't always know when my eyes were closed), but my internist wanted me to have the test anyway. The 'interpretation' of the EEG test report said: 'This is an abnormal EEG becuase of the moderate amplitude sharp wave seen bitemporally..This is nonspecific in clinical correlation but may be mildly epileptiform'. I still haven't gotten to speak with a local neurologist (picked up the report myself), and don't know when or how directly I'll hear from my movement disorder doctor (a 3 hour drive from here). Meanwhile, I was wondering whether any of this about 'epileptiform' means anything to anyone? Has anyone come across it in connection with their blepharospasms? Thanks! You probably need to talk with your neurologist and see if the abnormal waves are in synch with your clinical picture of the "spacing out" episodes. Epileptiform wave patterns on EEG's are often normal variants and represent no significance. Most of us are likely to have some variant activity on our EEG's, but neurologists determine significance by looking at the speed of the discharges, how long the discharges last, if the discharges in the brain cause any outward symptoms, such as your "spacing out" feeling, among other tings. I haven't heard or read anything that relates epilepsy and BEB, but who knows. The only thing certain about BEB is that it has almost as many presenting pictures as it has victims. |

Thanks for your reply--
I haven't been able to see the neurologist, as he's been out of the office (ill). I have an appointment tomorrow (a week since I got the 'abnormal' info). I don't know if his training is broad enough for him to say anything of use re bleph and epileptiform waves, but let's see. |
