Hi Everyone, I haven't posted in a while but I read the messages faithfully. I was just wondering if anyone has ever experienced jaw pain after receiving botox injections? I had a round of injections 5 weeks ago and they are already wearing off after 4 weeks. The last round lasted 10 weeks, so I am really disappointed. I don't know if this has anything to do with botox, or if it is something totally unrelated. Also, I am ( I wouldn't exactly call it drooling) but my mouth is wet a good part of the time. Anyone have this happen? This is so much fun!!! (HA)

Hi Jeanette, are you getting the botox injections for the eyelids only? If so then this shouldn't affect the jaw. You may, however, have Meige's Syndrome, which often goes along with BEB. I have /BEBMeige but don't get injections for the Meige but I do notice jaw pain on occasion. A friend who does have severe Meige (and not so severe BEB) suffers constantly with jaw pain as it spasms (just like our eyes) and the hard clenching causes the pain. She refers to it as a "Cheshire Cat Syndrome". I hope you figure out your cause. Best wishes. June in Toronto |

Hi June, I receive botox for the eyelids only. The pain in my jaw comes and goes. The doctor never mentioned Meige's Syndrome, but I am going to see a new doctor on the 28th so I will ask him about the jaw pain. I just didn't want to sound paranoid, but if this is possible, I will mention it to him. Thanks for responding Jenette |

Jenette, With some individuals, Blepharospasm may later 'spread' to include the lower area of the face (Oromandibular Dystonia). I experience jaw clenching, which causes some of the pain, and then a tooth ache type feeling which runs along the jaws. Botox at the TMJ area on each side helps me immensely in this regard. Wonder if it's possible that you don't have oromandibular dystonia, but are just unconsciously tensing your jaw from anxiety, to brace against the injections--
maybe clenching like that could give you some pain afterwards. Just a theory..(but it's not clear how long the pain 'comes and goes' ...'after botox'--does it go on for weeks?) Judith K Modified by judith k at Wed, Jul 26, 2006, 13:07:03 |

Hi Judith, The pain sometimes will last for a week or so at a time, but not necessarily right after the injections, so I don't know if it would be from clenching to brace for the injections. I'll bring it up to the new doctor on Friday and see if he can shed some light on it. My old doctor would probably tell me it was in my mind and that it would "go away" which is his standard answer for everything! Thanks for responding Jeanette |

Hi Judy, Thanks for the input. It does feel like a toothache. Hopefully it will go away. I'll run it by the doctor on Friday and see what he has to say about it. Thanks for your response. I really appreciate it. Jeanette |

Thank God for this bulletin board and all the other sufferers on it! I too have been having jaw pain (feels like a toothache type ache) for the last three days. I haven't had shots since May 9th, so I didn't associate the jaw pain with botox. However, I do have Meige's.
I considered callig my dentist, but was just there two months ago for a check up and teeth cleaning. A couple of Tylenol makes it feel better, but if it hadn't have been for this posting, I would have called and made an appointment and had to spend money for nothing. So thanks for this awesome bulletin board and all who share their maladies. |

Sometimes with Meige the teeth grind and a nightguard can be made by your dentist to help with that. Sometimes its just the Meige acting up in your jaw (throat, etc). Best wishes June in Toronto |
