Blurry Vision after BOTOX

Hello everyone. I'm new to your website and was diagnosed with Blepho earlier this year. My eyes want to close during speech or conversation. My problem is I'm experiencing severe blurry vision, especially in my left eye after receiving my 2nd set of BOTOX injections on October 31. The dr. even put in less units this time. 1st time I received 80 units. 2nd time I received 50 units. I know the blurry vision is only temporary, but I don't remember it bothering me as bad after my 1st set of BOTOX injections. It makes it really hard to drive & read/type on computer which is a big part of my job. Feels like I need some super strong glasses to sharpen letters when attempting to read. My left eye is worse than my right eye. Reading with my left eye right now is nearly impossible. Does it seem normal to still have the blurry vision nearly 3 wks after the injections? Right now, I'm wondering whether its better to have the eyelid closure & see rather than fight to see with the blurry vision. The blurry vision is very similiar to just putting gel in my eyes. I think I will report it to my dr. just in case. If you have any suggestions or feedback, please write back. Thanks!

Hi Wendy and welcome to the bulletin board. I don't have a lot of suggestions for this one but did want you to know that others do experience this problem/side-effect of Botox. I've had BEB for over 4 years now and just this past year when I changed doctors did I start experiencing the blurred vision. It would have to be a matter of placement of the injections. The last 4 times that I have gotten Botox, I've started experiencing blurred and double vision starting approximately 2 weeks after my injections and lasting for about 3 weeks. It is a temporary side-effect but very unpleasant none the less. It worsens for me as the day goes on as my eyes tire. Do let your doctor know about it and hopefully sites can be modified to lessen or eliminate the problem. I'm still working on it. Progress can sometimes be slow. :-)
I'm sure that this is very difficult for you since you are working and still driving.

My eyes tend to close when someone is talking to me and that is quite typical. Is this what is happening to you or do your eyes close when you are talking?
We've recently had lots of company and that means lots of conversations....it's torture for me trying to keep my eyes open. The company has been family and they are aware of my problem but I still struggle to try to keep them open so as not to appear "rude". :-(

Shirley, I frequently close my eyes but since I wear dark glasses, I presume they can't tell.

The exact opposite happens to me : when i talk my eyes stay open for that duration, although when i eat(chewing) they do close quite frequently.

Hi Wendy, I usually experience a few weeks of blurred vision in one or both eyes after botox injections. I have had the same excellent doctor for 8 years - he has changed sites and botox units but I still get the blurred vision which, luckily goes away. This time around however I experienced the blurred vision in my right eye for 10 weeks...no change in sites or units this time at all. There just doesn't seem any rhyme or reason for it - perhaps the botox just travels a little differently sometimes. Hang in there it will pass.

Welcome, Wendy. I'm sorry that you have been diagnosed with this frustrating disorder but you've come to the right place for support. I know what you mean about wishing for some glasses that would sharpen things up. I found it difficult to play music(notes were very hard to read) besides read and use the computer. My local optometrist told me he couldn't help me anymore because my eyes changed too much.
The most improvement came when I had a limited myectomy and the botox was decreased significantly.
Other than give you temporary blurred vision, is the Botox effective for you?

Wendy, if it persists for another week I would definitely ask your doctor about it. I have had some blurry vision while the botox takes effect but it has gone away eventually.
