I read the article and think it's pretty poor, i.e. repeating the noise that coffee might be a cause of BEB (it's not). BTW, I don't drink coffee but do enjoy other sources of caffiene (tea, soda pop, etc.) and none of that is any help for me. --- Lynn |

Hey, This study was posted a little bit ago.
There was also a recent story that coffee helps prevent Parkinson's disease.
Caffeine doesn't do it for me, either. Lynn, the BEB/coffee article says it helps "primary late-onset blepharospasm." As I recall, we both have early-onset blepharospasm. Oh well. I infer from reading both articles that for people with late-onset blepharospasm, a trial of Sinemet (dopamine) would not be out-of-line. Tatia Modified by Tatia at Tue, Aug 14, 2007, 10:14:18 |

According to the book, Reversing Dry Eye Syndrome: Practical Ways to Improve Your Comfort, Vision, and Appearance by Steven Maskin: "Caffeine works as a diuretic, draining water from the body. It is also a stimulant, which may increase lid fissure width (vertical distance between upper and lower lids) in some patients, adding stress on the tear film by thinning and stretching the tear. It may also promote meibomian gland dysfunction. Cutting down on the number of cups of coffee, tea, or caffeinated cola drinks you consume each day, as well as the amount of chocolate you eat, can have a strong positive effect on dry eye symptoms." I still have 1 cup of coffee (1/2 decaf) every morning ... I know I shouldn't ... it's hard ... I really like coffee, and chocolate too. Don't think I can go cold turkey, but I'll just keep my servings as small as I can. I honestly don't know how or if coffee affects the blink rate, but I do know that it dries our eyes out. Peace, Em

I ONLY WISH coffee did the trick... If it really worked... i would NOT have gotton this. I drink tons of coffee,, in fact i switched to decaf because everyone was telling me that coffee was probably the reason my eyes were acting funny - from all the caffiene.. but as someone said... at least they are working on it!! |
