My spasms started in one eye and I had the diagnosis of Hemifacial Spasm. After a while the other eye started spasming and the diagnosis was changed to BEB. Then I started getting facial spasms and Meige was added. The past 3 days my eye has been spasming as well as my face and now my neck and shoulders are spasming. My head is pulling to the right and a little bit forward. I am sure it is Cervical Dystonia. Have you had your Dystonia to gradually exacerbate? I have severe RA, Lupus, Ankylosing Spondylitis, have had heart surgery and various and other sundry diseases; mostly autoimmune. I am really discouraged at the moment. I will be anxious to hear your stories as to progression of this weird disease. Thank you.

Possi, It sounds similar to me. I started with severe dry eye, then was told I had hemi facial spams, then they realized they were bilateral and was diagnosed as meige along with BEB, and now cervical dystonia has been added. I also have a dignosis of severe scoliosis and fibromyalgia. I have been fighting depression and discouragement, too. It seems that once I conquer one diagnosis, another appears. I believe that the antidepressants I was taking for the fibromyalgia symptoms may have crated the dry eye, BEB, etc. This is a great place to get information and support. I kniw it is hard, but I have found that this group of people are great at giving us the support we need as well as helping us find answers to questions. You are in a safe place. Diane |

Thank you Diane. I was in the Rheumatologist's office this a.m. getting a Synvisc injection in my knee and the spasms hit with a vengeance. When I got up this a.m., I thought that I was much better today. Little did I know what this day held for me. It does get old. I have never had depression but I have had some trouble with it this winter. Not just the physical problem but we have had serious illnesses and death in our family and things just pile up. My husband also has RA and other problems and it is just a hard time. I think Spring will help. :o) Even though...we have had a glorious winter. Thank you again for your encouragement.

I too have recently been diagnosed with Auto Immune disease and it started to show in blood tests where my RF or RA was high with no symptoms. I started with the BEB in 07. I now have RA and hearing loss but the BEB is now Meige and recently told I have Apraxia and that is why Botox dosn't help. I wonder if Auto Immune disease has any connection? |

I have wondered that myself and even had a doctor mention it today. Not my regular NeuroOptho but a different dr. because I go to a teaching facility. I have really been struggling with the autoimmune diseases and pain along with the flare of the Blepharospasms/Meige and what my Rheumatologist called Cervical Dystonia. He is going to inject my neck with Botox. Wish we had some answers but I suppose it wouldn't change the fact that we would still just be treating symptoms. Blessings.
