Has anyone in Ontario, Canada filed for the Disability Tax credit deduction on the tax form? Do you need to be not working and totally impaired to file for this deduction?
thanks for letting me know.

Deb - who is in Ottawa for the weekend where it is chilly this morning!

I have not. If you follow the CRA questionnaire below, I think you will probably decide you do not qualify. The definition of blindness is based solely on visual acuity "Blind but with perfect vision" doesn't cut it.

Thanks Bob...I did notice there was not a section for "functionally blind".

Hi Deb,

Yes, I have been approved for the disability tax credit as of several years ago. Dr. Consky in Toronto filled in the application, and he said beforehand that I may or may not get it. He has done many of these applications, and says, "It depends whose desk it lands on."

In my case, though, I am not able to work and have given up driving, so that may figure in.

If you would like more detail on what Dr. Consky put in the form, you can email me personally.

Carol
