Has anyone found that botox doesn't work well at all if their blood pressure is higher than normal on injection day?

I've been trying to think of a relationship between higher blood pressure and Botox effectiveness, and I can't come up with anything. Have you noticed that when your blood pressure is higher, the Botox doesn't seem to work as well?

Hi,
Does this mean you've noticed that Botox does work better when your blood pressure isn't higher?
It's an interesting thought—though so often blood pressure is higher anyway in the doctor's office.
And then it also fluctuates so much.
Have you tested this; I mean, keep a record? So the nurse takes the BP, and then.....x.....minutes later, you get the injections, and then take the BP again afterwards?

(I usually ask them to do both arms—just out of curiosity, really. There is often a
significant difference.)

Sometimes I have to beg the nurse to take my BP - by then I'm sure it's higher. But, over the past couple of years I have noticed that when the treatment doesn't work my blood pressure's been higher than normal.

Finding a decent neurologist in north San Diego County is not easy, and that might have something to do with the problems!

Yes, when my blood pressure is high at the dr. office the botox just doesn't work - usually I get ptosis in one eye, sometimes very bad/long-lasting.

Joan, what you are describing are common side-effects of botox ....when too much is given in a spot or given in the wrong place or a place that is likely to make your lid droop.

A good injector will know if he or she is close to these areas that might cause the ptosis (droopy upper lid)...and will try to stay away or at least warn you that you might experience a droopy lid if the spasms are intense in that area and injecting right there is the only way to stop them.

Some people are more susceptible to getting a ptosis and if this is a problem, you need to talk to your injector about changing the sites a bit to prevent this.

I personally don't think that your blood pressure has anything to do with you getting a ptosis. That is generally always technique and site related.

If you have Blood pressure problems, you can always monitor this at home, under your primary care doctor's guidance. Most doctors that inject for botox are Ophthalmologists or oculo plastic surgeons and a variety of neurologists...none of which routinely take a patients blood pressure prior to injections. A neurologist's office will, on an initial exam but few continue this at each visit.

The good news is that if you get a ptosis and it lasts a "long time" ....then botox is effective for you and should last a long time, if and when it is given in the right places and in the right amounts for your particular case.

Have you contacted any of the Support group leaders in your area or the BEBRF for names of doctors that are experienced in giving injections ...or that have a good reputation?

Thanks - I have tried many doctors in SD county and had a wonderful one. But he had a stroke some time ago and is just getting back to work.

I have cervical too and get botox for that at the same time I get the bleph taken care of. And I go to neurologists/movement disorder specialists who can do both at the same time.
