Coumadin and Botox shots

Am going to be starting coumadin and just wondering if anyone has had experience with getting Botox while taking it? I just wondered if a "black eye" could result or if it is nothing to worry about.

I have a call in to ask my Botox doc if I need to suspend the coumadin ahead of the shots, but just wanted to see what others have experience.

There are lots of little veins in the eyelid and if one of those is punctured during injections, you will get bruising. Regular aspirin or Coumadin increase the risk of bruising in that situation, but one should never get off those without the doctor's OK, so wait for what he/she says.

I don't get Botox in the eyelid, but very close in the outer corner. Have gotten a black eye before without the coumadin.

Nurse or tech called back today and said not to stop coumadin, but he would not inject if the Protine level was above 2.4.

Am still thinking about this coumadin thing. Have been diagnosed with atrial fibrillation and coumadin seems to be the choice with all the problems with some new drugs on the market. Aspirin does not have a good enough research record to make it the best choice, but one that can be fallen back to if coumadin does not work out.

Guess that means I will have to get coumadin level check a couple of days ahead of Botox. She said I could change the appointment on short notice.

Thanks for your answer.

I've had a few bruises from my injections in the past.
Now, I'm having better luck by laying off any blood thinners (flax oil, fish oil, vitamin E and aspirin) about 4-5 days prior to my injections. The day after, I resume.

new subject. EHR cer ATCB: According to my medicare statement this is what my doctor used rather than botox. I have had two eye infections in one eye and the closing of the eyes is worst than ever. Athough I can squeeze my eyes shut and open with my fingers. Has anyone had any experience with this drug?

EHR cer ATCB means that the insurer is using vertified electronic health records via the authorized testing and certification board. It has nothing to do with the drugs used.
