A few months back, I was reading a list of ways to trigger a relaxation response, and one of the more unusual ones was a suggestion to try multiple yawns - at least 8-10 in a row. I tried it, and sure enough, once I got the hang of yawning so many times, it did make me feel really relaxed. The additional benefit is that yawning so many times makes my eyes water, and is a natural way to hydrate them between doses of artificial tears. Of course, it is not always socially appropriate to go into a series of yawns, but I find it good when I am reading at home. At first, it seemed silly to post this, but I am using the technique so often now that I am wondering whether it could help someone else. Just a warning - keep a tissue handy, because your nose will probably "water" too. Carol |

I have noticed that whenever I yawn my eyelid muscles relax and feel normal - for a few seconds. I'll try your suggestion to yawn a number of times in succession. Thanks! |

That's very interesting, Carol. I definitely notice that when I yawn, or laugh, my eyes relax, at least for a little while. Your idea of yawning multiple times in a row brought to mind that article someone posted awhile back (Washington Post?) about a woman with blepharospasm who described how it had come on and what it was like. I remember her saying that, when she started having symptoms, one odd and seemingly irrelevant symptom was that she was continually yawning and couldn't stop. Maybe her system was trying (automatically) to do something that might alleviate the condition. |

I remember having had moments of yawning time after time about one year ago but not anymore. Yawning relaxes my eyes to work normally for a few seconds and also lubricates them. So far I have not suffered from dry eyes. |

Thanks for the yawning tip Carol......I am going to give it a try. It has to be much better for the eyes than all of the eye drops. Donna R.

Yes, I find I can often go longer between doses of eye drops by using the yawn method.
