Hi All,

Just wondered if any of you have ever tried Sea Buckthorn to help with the dry eye syndrome many of us suffer?

I'm interested in this too Sonia.

I've started taking flaxseed oil capsules from Holland & Barrett about 3
months ago. They told me in there that local opticians are recommending them to people for dry eye. I know flaxseed has been mentioned lots of times on here but not sure about the capsules. I've also been taking Moistur-eye softgels for several months.

Those of you that do take Sea Buckthorn or flaxseed oil, what dosage do you take? And do you feel they make a difference? Can't say I've noticed any real improvement really with the combination I've been taking, still having to instill Hylo-forte intense lubrication drops every couple of hours. Or use lacrilube on really bad days - not good for daytime use!

Are these supplements really worth the expense - some are really costly!

Sorry to jump on the back of your question Sonia!

No problem Jane. I went into Holland and Barrett today, just to have a look at them and ask a few questions. It would seem in our branch, they are having problems with their supplier. They are looking into finding some one else to supply them. Hope to have some soon to put on the shelf. Not sure if that's just our shop or national. I would think its all the Holland Barrett stores in the UK.

Hi, Sonia-

I've never tried Sea Buckthorn for dry eyes.

I looked it up in the Natural Standard database, it gives it a "B" rating on an A-F scale, which means there's positive scientific evidence that it could be helpful in treating dry eyes.

There are some precautions mentioned. It is very important to talk to your health care provider/pharmacist before trying it, because it can interact with some medications.

Hi All,
I have decided to give Flaxseed a go, for my dry eye problem. I went into our local health store today, to ask them about Sea Buckthorn again. It would seem they are not stocking it any more now. I was able to buy one pot of the Flaxseed and they were selling the second for 1 penny, so I came out with two.
So will report in when I have taking it for awhile, have to give it a chance to work.

When I am trouble with my eyes, drops, drinking more water seems to help. My skin can also get dry, so it that good old age thing as well no doubt.
Hope you are all keeping as well as you can.
Take care
Love Sonia UK
