Hi all! Haven't been here in a long time. my eyes don't cooperate, imagine that. I have a question. Our insurance company is all messed up and the botox no longer gets ordered from the docs office from Allegen. We have to use a middle man. This pharmacy ships the botox to my injecting doctor as much as 10 days before i am to get injected. the injections are NOT helping at all.....could this be part of the problem? Shelf life is not long and if they have it 6 -10 before i even get injected could this be causing a problem...could it harm me? anyone know?
thanks all blinky winky in Indiana (windyana today!) |

Botox is shipped as a frozen powder, in a vial. It has to remain frozen. I do not like the middle man concept as there is much room for something to go wrong and the powder to thaw. The freeze dry powder is reconstituted with sterile saline before the doctor injects it. It shouldn't be left just sitting around. It should be kept in your doctor's office freezer If it was allowed to be at room temperature for a prolonged period of time, it would just lose effectiveness but wouldn't hurt you. Xeomen (another botulinum type A) does not require this special handling and can be stored at room temperature. Definitely talk to your doctor if the botulinum toxin that you are now getting isn't working at all. Shirley in New Mexico |

What Shirley said. It's one of the reasons I switched to Xeomin. Peter |

I have a very similar experience. My insurance (United Healthcare) began requiring my doctor to get the botox from UHCs own pharmacy. Seems that botox hasn't been working for me ever since. I'm not sure if there is something to this or not. |

just got injected. The doc didn't seem to concerned about having the middle man ship it 10 days before i use it. they mix it there. he said we will go up to 70 units next time. but i really think it has to do with the middle man.
I tried the Xenomin and got no relief at all. I know for a lot of patients it works very well. but i tried twice and it didn't help much....but i am a very "difficult patient" thanks all! Hoppy Easter |
