Hematoma After Botox Injections

I have had a little bruising or redness in the past from time to time with the injections but, this is the first time I have experienced a hematoma at one of the injection sites.

If anyone else has had this happen (and perhaps this happens to all of us at some point) I would appreciate hearing from you.

I have occasionally had a hematoma after injection even with the best injectors. I have had bruising but not hematomas with my current injector. I think the secret is that he looks very carefully after he has done several shots and, if there is any indication of blood accumulating, he has me press firmly on the site for several minutes. This does not eliminate bruising but does seem to prevent hematomas.

Thanks for your reply Bob. As soon as this happened my injector did have me press on it, but, unfortunately it did not help, at least, this time.

I suppose it depends on the size of the blood vessel and how direct the hit was. Anyway, the simple answer to your question is that it does happen and does not imply an incompetent injector.

I did not mean to imply that the injector was incompetent, but I was curious as to whether or not others had the same outcome at times. I could not remember reading anything on this bulletin board about hematomas happening when getting the injections. I could have missed it, but I was just curious.

What is the difference between a hematoma and a bruise?

I wasn't sure exactly what it was either, but here is how one of the internet sites described it.

"A hematoma or haematoma, is a localized collection of blood outside the blood vessels,[1] usually in liquid form within the tissue. An ecchymosis, commonly (although erroneously) called a bruise, is a hematoma of the skin larger than 10mm.[2] Internal bleeding is generally considered to be a spreading of blood within the abdomen or skull, not within muscle."

This was a good definition of bruises and hematomas....

From Web MD....
"Bruises develop when small blood vessels under the skin tear or rupture, most often from a bump or fall. Blood leaks into tissues under the skin and causes the black-and-blue color. As bruises (contusions) camera.gif heal, usually within 2 to 4 weeks, they often turn colors, including purplish black, reddish blue, or yellowish green. Sometimes the area of the bruise spreads down the body in the direction of gravity. A bruise on a leg usually will take longer to heal than a bruise on the face or arms."

"Occasionally after an injury, blood collects and pools under the skin (hematoma), giving the skin a spongy, rubbery, lumpy feel. A regular bruise is more spread out and may not feel like a firm lump. A hematoma usually is not a cause for concern. It is not the same thing as a blood clot in a vein, and it does not cause blood clots."

I've posted a link below to the site where I got the above information.

I totally agree with Bob, that this just happens at times. Some people are more susceptible to bruising than others and many people take various medications that act as blood thinners and therefore there may be more bleeding/bruising/or hematomas with getting the injections.

Besides many prescription medications, over the counter drugs/supplements, such as Advil, Aleve, Aspirin and fish oil, all act as blood thinners. There are numerous ones.

Hi,

Nearly 3 years ago, I had a very large, lingering bruise from a fall. My chiropractor recommended a homeopathic supplement. He said some athletes use it.

It cleared up my bruise pretty quickly.

Next time I had a bruise from a botox injection, I tried it, and it helped.

I've had enough bruises, now and then, over the past 10
years, to have a sense of how long it usually takes for a bruise of a particular kind to clear up.
This supplement definitely speeded the process. At least for me.

It's gone through some name changes. I have 2 bottles I'm looking at, and one says Pro-En-Zyme and the other says Pro-Infla-Zyme. It's marketed as a dietary supplement by a company called Nutri-West.

It's bit pricey; I think I paid $36. But, after nearly 3 years, the capsules still seem to work.

I've had a couple of really dramatic bruises from injections
(black and blue eye), but those were before I knew about
Infla-Zyme, so I didn't get to test it on the worst bruises
I'd had—it's been a long time.

Anyway, I should say that I'm just describing something that helped me. I have no connection with or financial interest in this product.
