Allegra D and BEB

Hi, the other day I took an Allegra D, and the spasms almost completely stopped. Unfortunately Allegra D seems to have an insomnia effect, so I'm not sleeping well. But the spasms seem much better using Allegra D. I took the 24-hour pill; maybe next time I will try the 12 hour version. I'm also not sure if allegra without the "D" might still help with BEB, but avoid the sleeping issues.

Curious if anyone else has found relief - and the right formula - to use Allegra in your fight against BEB.

Antihistamines can be useful for some people's Blepharospasm symptoms due to their anticholinergic properties.

In addition, decongestants are also helpful for some. I believe that the decongestants are helpful due to their stimulant like side-effects. Many people have commented that Sudaphed is quite helpful with their symptoms.

Since Allegra D fits into both these categories (antihistamine and decongestant), it could be one or both that is helping.

You could try taking Allegra without the decongestant and see if that is helpful for you and then just try "plain" Sudaphed (just the decongestant ingredient) and see what that does. That way you would know which one is actually helpful or if both of them are. So just go with the single ingredient and not a combination product.

I looked into the archives and found this link to a thread that we had going a few years ago which you might find helpful.

Just got back so forgive the delay. Allegra-D is very helpful. DO NOT TAKE THE 24 HOUR version - you are right - it will affect your sleep. In fact, I find 12 hour lasts longer than 12 hours.

You might experiment with the following:
1. children's benedryl - a couple of tablespoons - doesn't make you as sleepy as the pill - take with one small (red) Suafed 30 mg (very low dose). Always good to start with low doses.
2. Sudafed alone - two red ones (60 mg)
3. I sometimes take the 12 hour Sudafed long acting. It works but it does affect sleep.
4. clonazapam with sudafed or another stimulant such as low-dose Adderall, Vyvance or Provigil (you'd have to get a doctor to agree to prescribe - Sudafed can be obtained over the counter)

I vary my doses - good idea to avoid dependence. Always start
small until you find the right combo.
Good luck.
