Anyone have success with Baclofen? I can't get a RX for Klonopin because my internist retired and my injector doesn't proscribe.

My next Dr's appt is with a Rheumatologist. He proscribed Baclofen many years ago for a back issue and wouldn't have trouble with doing it again.

I had a limited trial with Baclofen about eight years ago. I think I only gave it about 2-3 weeks.

Nothing improved and I can remember the side effects were enough to make me quit and try another medication.

Not much help, I know, but at least I did try it. Of course, everyone reacts differently. Klonopin works best for me personally.

Good luck
Steve

I tried baclofen several years ago and couldn't take it. It made me dizzy. Actually I think that is the only medication that I can't take!!

I gave it a two week trial, many years ago and it seemed to have absolutely no effect on my Blepharospasm.

I know that it is one of the drugs that they say may help with BEB symptoms but in some 15 years on this board, I can't think of many people that have ever said that it did help....I'm thinking that the ones that I do remember taking it, were taking it in combination with other medications.

I mostly remember people asking if it helped...like you are doing.

It shouldn't hurt to try though. You never know when something will work for you.

This study was done in the 1980s but does suggest that someone was successfully treated with the drug in combination.

Blepharospasm--successful treatment with baclofen and sodium valproate. A case report.
Sandyk R.
Abstract
In a patient with idiopathic blepharospasm treatment with the gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA)-mimetic combination of baclofen and sodium valproate resulted in complete and sustained remission of symptoms and signs. It is suggested that blepharospasm results from a relative deficiency of GABA-ergic neurons and dopamine predominance in the striatum, and that treatment with the GABA-mimetic agents (baclofen and sodium valproate) represents a more physiological means of reducing dopaminergic predominance in the striatum. This report, together with previous reports, suggests that the combination of these two agents should be tried in the initial management of this syndrome.

I had difficulty sleeping at night due to spasms, so I was prescribed Baclofen. I will say that taking it helped me sleep better...This is the only medication I'm taking, in addition to injections. I recently retired, and I'm working with my "new" neurologist (#3) to stop taking Baclofen altogether. No more job stress, so hopefully that will be a positive for my eyes :-)

I do think we're all different re Bleph, so it's trial and error...good luck to you!

I have been taking baclofen for 5 years. Was taking it 3x a day, for some years. Now take it 2x a day only. (20 mg. each time) I find it helps. Tried to come off it at one time, but found my eyes were worse without it.
