I need cataract surgery. Will I have a problem finding a doctor to treat me as I have BBE & facial distonia? Had Xeomin injections earlier this month by my
Neurologist.

There have been other people with blepharospasm and facial dystonia who have had cataract surgery!

I have just had cataract surgery on both eyes. I have blepharospasm and cervical dystonia (with a head tremor). My surgeon was concerned about movement during the brief 8-10 minute surgeries, so he gave me a lid block during both surgeries. I had a few problems with dry eye, caused by all the eye drop medications, and high pressure, which has nothing to do with blepharospasm.

After everything healed and my eyes settled down, I have 20/20 in one eye and 20/30 in the other eye. Medicare only pays for either close or distance correction, so I chose distance vision. You can choose close vision in one eye and distance vision in the other but I had tried that with contact lenses a long time ago and gave up trying to adjust to them. I do know some who wear contacts and love this option.

I purchased a set of "cheaters" to help with close vision. I got 4 pair for $20. I can tell that my close vision is still changing, so I am waiting a week or so before I go back to my optometrist for refraction testing. I put a pair of "cheaters" next to my computer, on the kitchen counter, by my recliner and in my purse. I can never find a pair when I need them. I had always had fairly good close vision and didn't realize that it would be this bad after surgery when you choose distance vision over close vision. Even though my distance vision is excellent, I think I am going to opt for wearing glasses all the time in order to have good vision without looking for glasses or wearing them around my neck. Sixty years of wearing glasses is a hard habit to break.

Good luck on your surgery!
