Botox is the treatment of choice for both BEB and Meige. I'm sorry about your disappointing results. Meige is very difficult to treat and most are underwhelmed with their results from botulinum toxin. Injectors vary as to their expertise and skill in injecting so one has to do some shopping around at times to find the best one for your particular needs. Fortunately for many, Botox does seem to be very effective for Blepharospasm but others aren't so lucky. You truly have to advocate for yourself, ask questions of your physician and sometimes, if things just are not working satisfactorily, move on to someone else. It can be a long, slow and frustrating process. Some people do take medications but they also come with their own set of problems and side-effects and many stop working over time. Others find that various medications relieve symptoms "enough" that they find them useful.
As far as the electronic brain stimulation goes, if you are talking about units like the TENS ( transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation), then yes, they have been tried and not found to be effective. I tried an alpha stim unit about 10 years ago for months and never found that it did anything for my BEB. Another person that I know also tried one at the same time and there were no positive results. Occasionally someone will question them but I've not heard anyone that said that it actually worked. If you need any help in finding doctors experienced in treating Blepharospasm and Meige, please contact our office. Charlene would be happy to help you out. BEBRF Office Mailing address:
