Steroid drugs often produce dramatic, almost magical, improvement. But long-term use or overuse, especially of things like eyedrops, can lead to problems, including fast-growing cataracts. But more serious side-effects as well.
I think that injections can be less problematical. You can ask your doctor about that, and also do a little research.
I developed blepharitis once. It's a non-communicable inflammation of the eyelid margins—it can look a little like red eye or conjunctivitis. It worsens blepharospasm because it's a significant additional irritant.
Anyone can get blepharitis, but people with blepharospasm develop it at higher rates.
That's one reason why 'eyelid hygiene' is important. Cleansing the gunk that accumulates along the margins, and regularly washing there even if you don't have symptoms, goes a very long way towards prevention.
