I've had medical Botox for bilateral blepharospasm and Meige syndrome for more than 25 years now, and it seems I may have developed immunity to the toxin, or at least tolerance. In short, it not only did not work the past two injection times, my spasms worsened the first day after the shots were given and progressively got worse thereafter until I can barely function. After 25 years of good Botox results (plus a limited myectomy that didn't stop the spasms but added the potential for corneal abrasions when I sleep), it is dreadful that the shots don't work. My doctor said he's never had a patient who experienced this problem.
HELP to all members on the BEB message board! Has anyone experienced a failure of Botox after years of treatment or known another BEB patient who did? I also take an oral medication (Clonazepam, though I don't take the entire dosage I'm allowed), but nothing is helping since the injections.
I will appreciate any and all responses. Thanks! Jaye
